This pair of Greek baglamas has been my project for the past couple of months. A baglama is a half size bouzouki (not a toy though) used in Greek folk music alongside bouzouki, guitar, acordion etc. These two are almost identical twins but one has a mulberry neck and more mulberry in the body the other has a yew neck and more yew in the body. Sitka soundboards and rosewood fingerboards. Keith.

They look interesting Keith - what's the scale length on those, and, what do they sound like? Keith (She'll be wearing Greek baglamas when she comes....etc )

Keith, Those look gorgeous and that's mighty skilled work with the staves for the bowl backs. I've never used mullberry but yew is a lovely wood to work with. They look slightly suggestive paired like that though Perfect for putting a couple of Red Noses in the soundholes on Red Nose Day too. Any sound clips?

I'll work on some sound clips. The scale on these is 35cm although that's not set in stone! I would describe the sound as "plinky plinky" Keith! Mulberry is lovely wood Dave, I got a load of it because my neighbour cut the tree down to make way for a building job so I got the tree, we cut it down and converted it in 2000.

Yes , we have no baglamas! Jane said they'd make a great pair of earrings if further miniaturised The bowl backs must be really tricky to build...and the mulberry is very unusual. Good to see you around again Keith!

I hope this is a link to a sound sample of one of the baglamas, It's a great tune but I'm just learning the baglama part for it!

Keith, That sounds good - I see what you meant by "plinky, plinky". It's sort of a hybrid of a ukulele and a banjo - in a good way

Thanks for that Keith - plinky all right, but I bet the sound adds a lot to an ensemble, and cuts through well too. Keith
