.... Nearing completion to what I want with my old guitar, I have recently replaced the old pick-guard with a new shiny one (removed the old one with 0.25mm feeler guage - just slid straight under and lighter fluid to remove excess adhesive), lowered the action slightly and have ordered the words Feòchan and "Custom Folk" in metallic gold lettering from Rothko and Frost (Waterslide Decal). New leather guitar strap with a Celtic design on it and added Martin Custom Light strings (tuned to DADGAD). Should look good when finished, although I may need some new tuners eventually. I didn't want to put this in t'Plucky Duck as there is so much good stuff in there and didn't want to look / sound ridiculous. However, I did a recording on my mobile phone, it's not very good but have uploaded it to Box and placed the link below - it's a 'warts and all' job, just done a fade in and out and cropped it by half. There is a melody in there somewhere. The link is here: DADGAD Test on old Guitar.

It was very quiet, windminstrel and, with my ears, that's not a good thing! But what I could hear, I enjoyed. Quite a mellow sounding guitar, even with new strings...

Thanks for that, I know it's quiet ....shouldn't be. I will have a play and upload a new one. ..... when I wrote 'have a play' I meant on my computer with Audacity, uploaded the same one but with enhanced volume. Just in case of any confusion. ....... somebody take this shovel off me, I feel this hole is getting deeper.

Yup, that's louder, thanks! Not bad quality at all for a phone recording - my phone is barely more advanced than cocoa tins and string! Sounds to be well worth the work on the your old guitar. Maybe some pics of the completed project sometime....? Keith

Some pictures of before are here, the label inside is from Deadlight Guitars in London where I purchased it, he felt it looked bare with no label in it: Feochan - The Early YearsThen a rather less clear picture with the new Bridge, Bridge Pins, Bone Saddle and Bone Nut. Added Bits

Put the gold lettering on now. Will post some pictures soon. I had to wait a bit because it wasn't to the correct specification .... black text on a black headstock is not a look I was hoping for, anyway they replaced it and it's fine. Not a job for the faint of heart I must say, ultra-thin layer with writing on has to be soaked in water and when placed on the guitar then the backing is slid from underneath... hence the 'water slide' aspect. Looks good and my nameless guitar now has a name
