A friend gave me an old nylon string takamine guitar this last weekend, i was thinking of putting an undersaddle pickup in it, any suggestions what make of u.s.t to go with.....are the more expensive models really any better than the cheaper ones. Looking at the Headway ones as they seem easily available in the u.k. Going with ust as i'm going to use it conjunction with an external mic for recording. Thanks Rob

Hi Rob, and welcome to the Forum! Hope you'll settle in quickly.
Sorry I'm ignorant re USTs in nylon strung guitars. Have used Headway UST in steel strung in the past (now have K&K in everything) and reckon they are as good as USTs get, but recording direct from them alone tends not to sound too good, though with lots of decent external mic in the mix, which you're planning to use, things do get better as you no doubt realise.
As an aside, I'd plump for a soundboard transducer - more realistic sound when recorded direct, and a much truer sound when played amplified. Of course, you can still use the SBT signal plus external mic for recording too.
Hope someone here can be of more help.
Keith
