One of my dream guitars is a 20's is a ladder braced parlor guitar (oscar schmitt, Stella, Regal etc) but these are quite few and far between and also quite expensive unless they need restoration (although I would love to try a restoration on one of these!) so I was wondering if there are any new ladder braced parlor's out there?, there are some luthiers out there who can make one but I'd have one hell of a time saving for one of those on a student budget :/, I'd also learn to make one, but where I live I don't know of anywhere to learn and I don't have the tools etc.

In addition, are there any 20's parlors that don't cost an arm and a leg?, some of the Stella's can easily hit £1000

John How makes ladder braced parlors in the style you're probably after, but unfortunately these would be even dearer than the sort of Stella you mentioned www.johnhowguitars.com/ladder.html

Vintage parlour guitars pop on ebay now and again, eg thisIf you're willing to ship from the States, there's this site, the owner posts on the AGF and seems a nice chap. I'm not sure if guitars from that era have truss rods, so I think they'd require really light strings. There's the Washburn Vintage series of 3 Parlour guitars, that are supposed to be based on 125 year designs which might make one of the models at least ladder braced. Another option for a ladder braced guitar wouldn't be small bodied but a Selmer type/Gypsy Jazz Guitar have ladder braces.

Enjoy your current instruments! You could use the waiting time (which may be very long!) reading luthiery books and trying to get some paying gigs to start a dream fund....? Keith

I came across some other, 1950-1960's Gibson Lg-0, LG-1, and the B-15. Also the Epiphone Caballero of that era too, there's a Caballero and some other Gibsons here at £649. Completed listings for the B-15 seem to indicate they sometimes go for under £400. There's a LG-1 on ebay right now too.
