Glad somebody still reads VIZ.
Nowt against the banjo, however I have a deep and visceral dislike for the Accordion. Dunno why.

I have always thought that the accordian is the Frank Spencer of the musical instrument family: it brings on an overwhelming desire to rend and trample.

I have nothing against the banjo, or maybe even the accordion. The one instrument that makes my skin crawl are the bagpipes. It's akin the blood curling scream of foxes in the middle of the night turned into a toneless ear splitting instrument.

So the musical instrument hate hierarchy goes thus: Ukulele Banjo Accordion Bagpipes Can we take it any further? Where would YOU put your least favourite instruments in this list?  Personally, I'm not that keen on the saxophone - maybe because it was a bit overused in pop music when I was growing up, but I can't stand to hear it now. Goes below bagpipes for me  |

Neither the banjo nor bagpipes would be on my list.
Though not keen on the accordian, I like the concertina.
I might add the harmonica to the list for Room 101.
But all these instruments have redeeming features, in the right hands. Conversely, even the guitar and violin can make you cringe, especially the latter when tortured by Andre Rieu.

The instruments? Don't blame the instruments, blame the artists!
IMHO any instrument in the right hands is able to be the source of great music.
On the other hand, any instrument can reduce your lifetime immensely. Just make sure that it's played by the right wrong artist...

There's only one instrument I can't stand and that's the double bass. It's the double bass that makes me hate them jazz tunes that have a double bass relentlessly thumping away in the background, causing all the other instrumentalists to adopt a dead-pan expression. Nice? No. It makes me want to shout, "Stop it. I can't stand it." |

It's a result of my early exposure to the Accordion and Scottish 'traditional' music. Thank my parents and Uncle Jimmy who played the bloody thing endlessly at parties! That said, it's the only instrument I can't stand and that's not too bad. A wholly personal thing. Out of curiousity, to whom do you refer? Alasdair. |
