Out of curiousity, to whom do you refer? Alasdair. I had hoped that you'd ask

Sorry Bernd,
Gonna have to wait... at work and PC refusing to allow youtube.
Gonna be a LONG night.
I'll get back to you though - the suspense is... interesting.
Alasdair.

I don't dislike any of the above, as all reflect intimate and subtle muscle or breath control from the user, but I do think all electronic keyboards should be split into their component molecules and dumped in the depths of the Sun. After my old upright piano died I tried to persuade myself that the things had come on a long way and were actually alright, but they simply don't feel as expressive as they should.
I'm actually in a good mood this morning.

I have never been keen on the piano accordian, but at one of the sessions I attend a chap plays one. He plays it really well and I think that being stuck in front of poor players on poor instruments might be the original turn-off. I am mocked by some musician friends for playing the melodion, a two-row in D and G. It is not subtle but I learned to play it as it was the instrument I most enjoyed dancing too when I was young and fit! It tells you where to put your feet. Along with the banjo it is roundly mocked in folkie circles. Bagpipes--Hmm, depends which one. The small elbow pumped ones as found in Northumberland, Scotland and Ireland in differing forms I rather like but the big scottish "war pipes" definitely need to be played outdoors and preferably "Over the Hills and far away". I used to see a trio occasionally that included a Hurdy Gurdy. Sounded great in a band but horrible on its own. I'm with Walkingdecay re keyboards, horrible phoney noises and they are a cheats charter. I know a "musician" who plays keyboards for money at various local pubs and clubs. A massive sound comes out of the system but he only plays using two, sometimes three fingers.

Alasdair, I sort of look back with a curious fondness at the traditional Scottish music I had to endure as a child. I'm Paisley born and bred And I really enjoy BBC4's Transatlantic Sessions every year. Maybe I'm just an old folkie at heart...

I played keyboard in a school band in the eighties. A keyboard can be a fantastic instrument. Here's a proof (it's german. I hope you don't mind):

I'm a Glaswegian of teuchter parents and had the White Heather Club, Corries, Glasgow Gaelic Choir, Hall and MacGregor, etc, etc, background - parties with parents and friends getting maudlin about the old country. It all has its place and was of its time BUT - and I can't explain it - just dislike the accordion. I like the T A Sessions too, although I sometimes feel they're 'over-produced'... I'm fortunate here in Plockton - there's a great session regularly in the local pub and the School of Excellence in Traditional Music in the local school. Still in Paisley? Alasdair.

I was enjoying it but it cut off suddenly, just when the keyboard was taking off.

Glad somebody still reads VIZ. Nowt against the banjo, however I have a deep and visceral dislike for the Accordion. Dunno why. The art is in keeping one's crown jewels out of the way........I'm told.

I've never heard staccato accordion before and I quite like it.
