Excellent - an honest review at last - I think the writer should join us here on the Forum. They'd make some great contributions to the Curmudgeonly Old Gits thread.

I think the swear filter would break if that fella joined up EDIT: Do we have a swear filter? I'm too scared to check As far as the review goes, it's hopefully a parody of the unreasonable levels of hate the band generate, which is strange considering their general popularity. It's almost become cool to slate them. I don't really know much about their music, but it's acoustic and probably inoffensive, and they have a banjo player, so they're alright by me

A certain element of negativity in this review. Well deserved, of course. After all, even the banjo player would rather be a caterer.

Have to say I have this album and I can appreciate the observations that a lot of it is contrite faux emotion/folk with lots of cliched sound bites and riffs, but I actually quite like it Why does everyone on here love to hate them, yes they've made a lot of money out of milking a faux clichéd sound, but at the end of the day they are capable of playing and entertaining huge crowds at least as good as most of us are capable of. It may not be the epitomey of technical guitar wizardy or compositional invention, but when I'm driving to work half dead in the morning and want to listen to something tuneful and with a melody I can easily follow, along with the rest of the uk, it does it for me more than most of the awfully sophisticated big name acoustic instrumentalists that often get worshiped on this forum. And it's a f--k site better than the cowel stuff that usually populates the radio! It reminds me of a hifi/music forum I'm on that loves to slag off people like Phil Collins, sting, U2 , Coldplay etc because they're not genuine or musically hip and indie/cool enough, yes all of these have been guilty of milking the system and chaining out crap,at some time, but let's face it in their time they've done some good stuff and are highly competent musicians/writers. Old guit rant over !!!

Fair play, the Mumfords are very popular on both sides of the pond. I think that it's the "rich boys playing at it" that niggles people. They are a bit "Young Conservatives on dress-down Friday". Or is it just me?

I think that it's the "rich boys playing at it" that niggles people. They are a bit "Young Conservatives on dress-down Friday". Maybe ... but doesn't that smack of "white folk can't play the blues"? Music is music. It can be played by anyone, irrespective of gender, class, sexuality... and if some are good enough/lucky enough to make money out of it then slagging someone off and whinging about them doing so smacks of jealousy and hypocrisy - cos I'd love to!

As I said "Fair play" to them they must be doing something right. Just not my cup of tea. As for making a living at it, well I played my first solo paid gig last year but am not bothered about playing professionally, I just enjoy the relaxed music and social side of sessions. I don't want a job!

I can't say I'd recognize a Mumford and Sons if it jumped up and bit me on the nose. Don't think I've ever heard them. From reading that review and this thread, I guess I'm lucky.

I agree wholeheartedly with this review.
I think Mumford and sons are utter trite, where each song has the same structure, with a quiet verse first, then a mid tempo verse with bass drum, then a breakdown, then the same banjo lick as the last song, then the chorus, which is basically the verse but with the singer straining to get to the top of his vocal range and stomping that sodding bass drum every beat, then the whole thing repeated again...
Plus I find the whole vicars boys in dungarees act a load of old bollocks... I honestly can't think of a band I've ever detested so much, and I'm fed up of being asked 'like Mumford and sons?' When I say I play acoustic...
They can't be killed off (career wise I'm not quite ready for them to be assassinated yet) quick enough or me...

Don't know if he felt better after that rant but I, curiously, did.
Feels like I just got a whole load off my chest - and I don't even care for or about the band in question.
Never underestimate the power of a good rant.
And another thing...
