I'm not quite sure if I understand your question correctly. What exactly would you want to to move from 1st to 4th fret ?

The easiest way would be if you use a capodaster and put it on the 3rd or 4th fret. This way you could play higher up the neck while using our standard chords. Would that be what you're looking for ? link

if i wanted to move from fret 1 to fret 4 etc what would i call this please? george- each fret on a guitar raises the note played by one semitone. So an F note played on the first fret bass string will become G sharp if you move your bass string finger to the fourth fret. It's the same with chords- one semitone at a time.

If you spent 1 hour with a guitar teacher they could explain so much of what I think you want to know, and probably save you an awfull lot of time!
