On Friday I was playing at a folk club, it was quite a big moment for me because it was the first time I sang in front of anyone, I explained prior to doing so that I couldn't sing, they said do it anyways, I did and they all said I actually could sing which was a real confidence booster! however, the first song that I sang which was the first time I had sang to anyone in person was actually a song I wrote, I did't tell anyone and no one actually picked up on that fact, the person who runs the folk club was the person who took me there and brought me back because I had no way of getting there but he was talking on the way back how I did good and how I was pretty good at singing then I just mentioned that the first song I did was one that I wrote, it took a moment but he slowly looked over, quite surprised and just said 'that is your song?!' I said yes and he seemed to be genuinely surprised, I was grinning from cheek to cheek and I felt really proud with myself!

Brilliant, Alex. There'll be no stopping you now! I'm not sure why it is, but (big generalisation here) it seems to me the English like to suppress peoples' natural inclination to sing. This doesn't seem to happen in Wales. But I was always discouraged from singing from about the age of 15. Peer pressure and spouse pressure conspired to stop me, and, fool that I was I took notice of them and came to believe I couldn't sing. But now I know the truth. Everybody can sing. They just need to find their voice and their style. So good on you. young man. This is a lifetime pleasure, if you want it to be. How's about you record the song for the Plucky Duck? I'd love to hear it and I'm sure everybody else would too.

Nicely done Alex! Almost nobody believes they can sing. Almost everybody can. Hope you'll be doing a regular turn at your club from now on - sounds like it would be well appreciated. Keith

Yes! Well done. To perform live in public for the first time is a big hurdle to get over. You have done it successfully. Now you can do more and enjoy it. Enjoying is the key. Cheers!

Congratulations Alex - not only performing in public for the first time and enjoying it too, but opening with your own song as well. Which takes a huge amount of nerve - great that it worked out so well. Mark

Congrats on taking that most important step and having fun, Alex. Some people (such as, um, me) get wound up and don't draw pleasure from playing in public, and I'm certain it feeds back into the music. You've got off to exactly the right start. Power to you, mate.

Nice one, Alex. Just remember to take all praise and criticism with a little salt.
