Or maybe it's progress! Not too long ago, I decided that I wanted to learn to read music and generally become a bit more knowledgeable about what I was doing (and just happened to choose the Leavitt book for this). I feel that it's progressing... I'm finding that I'm actually reading the music rather than memorizing where to put my fingers... if I try to play somethinga round the house and don't have the music in front of me, I struggle. I get the book out, and all is well so to spek. Went to try a couple of second hand guitars yesterday... my mind went blank! Couldn't remember hardly anything - I actually "needed" the music... argh!!! Eventually got something going, and played ... Larrivee L09 - very nice, would like to spend some time at home with this. Apparently, it's previous owner goes by the name of Dougie Mclean. Huss & Dalton D RH And a 1971 Martin d-28 - that WAS nice :-) Shame it looks exactly the same as my old Kasuga - that put me off

Glad you got the playing going eventually! Hope you're right and it is "progress" as I'm rather a bit in the same boat. I got used to reading music in the years I was playing classical guitar and the increasing is not helping me to memorise anything let alone pieces of music. I now rely on some general improv with altered tuning when I'm testing out guitars in a store. As a plus I find that's a good test too, because if a guitar plays well it translates into more fluent improv with a more musical qualities. I have fancied trying a Larrivee one day - suspect I'll need to travel some distance for that - about as common as rocking horse droppings round here. Mark
