Someone I know through the folk club has this for sale, it is a Fender strat but it was made in China, what do you think about it?, he is asking £100 including the stagg case shown, if it is alright then I may consider getting it, if it is cr@p then I'll just leave it...

Not necessarily a bad thing. e.g. Fender Modern Player Stratocaster HSS as reviewed Music Radar / Guitarist 4.5 stars out of 5. A made in China Fender review on Music RadarThe same guitar reviewed there gets 4.7/5 from user reviews on Musicians Friend. With electrics I've had made in China models as good on quality as the made in USA ones I've had. But I've also seen shockers. Mark

If it's a Chinese 'Modern Player' as above, I think they're very good. in fact, I have one (a bass) and it's a cracker, great quality and plays like a dream.
Why not try it out and decide? £100 doesn't seem like a huge risk if you like it.

I'd check for dead notes. Usually this one of the main issues with guitars like these.

As far as I'm aware the only Chinese 'Fenders' are the Modern Player series, and the pic doesn't seem to be one of them. The Modern Players are all variations of Strats and Teles, odd pickup configurations etc, there are no 'standard' models as such. Having said that, if it plays and sounds ok, £100 isn't too much................it is however £100 towards something else!

Fender logo isn't in the right place. I'd say it's a fake

I would agree that it's a fake. Also at £100 and from China. There are some great fakes out there and some awful ones. Fakes are fine, as long as you know it's a fake!

After studying it a bit, I'd agree it's not a Modern Player (the Chinese made Fender range). It just doesn't look right, and the Modern Players are a new introduction - that guitar doesn't look new. Here is the MP Strat headstock: As I said above, the Modern Player Fenders are really decent, and my Jag bass was tremendous value for money, so if you can get one of those, no problem. Dunno about this one, though.

I'm with Chris , its a fake . The modern player or classic players are made in Mexico . There was a range made in china a few years back but with a solid black fender logo and they weren't up to much . That guitar has the spaghetti writing and is in the wrong place . Its a Chinese made cheap copy with a transfer sticker available on flea bay .

The modern player or classic players are made in Mexico. The modern player range is made in China, but this guitar isn't one of them.

I wonder what happened to this poor little strat copy?
Asked £100, offer 'em £80, if it's OK to play, it's goata be worth that. The case must be worth £20.
