Stunning... And especially good to see a tailpiece that complements the instrument...!

We did another video-interview while Kevin was here. (I defiantly prefer staying behind the camera!!) All the very best, Rory www.taranguitars.co.ukwww.thewoodshop.scot

Great sounding and looking instrument... makes me almost glad I don't play anything other than the guitar otherwise I'd be in trouble. Congratulations. Cheers, marcus

Hi all, I spent some time today organising some wood for Springwell orders. This Scottish Rippled Sycamore which was cut in 2000. The logs came from Haddington in East Lothian. I've been saving this particular log for Mandolins and now the sets are cut ready for work to start later this year. Exciting times!

Wonderful! I think using the indigenous wood will make the mando even more appealing (works on me, anyway!)

That sycamore looks very pretty even at this early stage, very envious of whoever has placed your first mando commissions and hoping we might see a build thread emerging?
I meant to ask earlier, I think your tops are arched but is it carved or bent?

Hi Mike, I'll do a build thread on the mandolins when they come along later in the year, 4 of the 5 places are sold for this year. Also the tops are carved in european spruce. Hope this helps. Many thanks, Rory www.taranguitars.co.ukwww.thewoodshop.scot

Rory, Are the tops actually carved, like on many bluegrass style mandolins? I thought at first you had merely 'arched' the tops, similar to your other instruments, but it would still technically be a 'flat top'? Just wondering in case I've had it wrong Martin

Hi Martin, Yep there the same as the bluegrass style mandolins, the tops are carved from a book matched wedge. Arch top but flat back which differs from the A's and F's. Below is a picture of the bouzoukis that are the same as the Mandolins. (The Mandolin pictures are covered in measurements;)) But this will give you an idea of what it looks like in side. Hope this helps. All the very best, Rory www.taranguitars.co.ukwww.thewoodshop.scot
