Yesterday I changed my pickup batteries before a gig. At soundcheck there was a very high frequency bit of interference. I switched back to the old battery and the sound guy seemed to think the interference had disappeared. It is possible the problem was not with my guitar, but has anyone come across this kind of thing before?

Certainly had plenty of of strange pre-gig noises, but none like you describe Andy. Mind you, with K&K minis I don't need batteries for my pickups. Was the venue a familiar one where you'd not had problems before, or a first time one? Trouble is, as you know, there's just so many unpredictable things that make weird noises when not expected, and often for no apparent reason. Important thing is that you got it sorted! Nice. Keith

I reckon it'll be down to some variations in the power supply. I've found a few times when playing outdoor gigs that I get some strange noises either from my Orchid preamp or from effects pedals - particularly when the power supply has been run at some length or they're using an outdoor socket. Mind you, I get strange noises at most gigs, but that's down to my playing.....

I was playing a gig recently and decided to change strings and battery the morning of the gig. When I was restrung I tried it out and I got bad interference and distortion. I put my old battery back in and all was fine. I put it down to a dodgy/old battery.

I had bought a pack of four batteries from Aldi — perhaps I shouldn't be surprised! I might try again over the next few days.
