I'm going to work on the bases that the jig having 'uke' written on it is entirely inconsequential, colins

Leo, don't tell the others, they think it's a guitar!
When I make my ukes I use the same neck system, just on a smaller scale, so Instead of making a new dedicated jig I just made an adapter for this one, and just to remind myself, I indicated the hole to use for the uke.

Phil Sorry Phil, long way to go yet. tomorrow I just start to finesse the neck fit, then of course there is the fingerboard to glue on, the neck shaping to finalise, frets to install, heel cap to make and fit. Oh then a bridge to make and glue on, after that it's a couple of weeks of applying the finish, and then just when you think it's done, a saddle and nut to shape and the final set-up. So plenty of time for lots more entries! Colin

OK, time to fit the neck to the body. So, put in the two bolts and have a look see, not too bad, if I say so myself.
It's important to get the neck fitting correctly in at least three of the 11 possible dimensions, to do this the joint where the neck contacts the body has to be adjusted. If you remember I tried to help this process by measuring the angle when making the heel block, so the main adjustment to make is to get the neck running along the centre line of the body. To move the neck, wood is taken off of the heel where it contacts the body by slightly loosening the neck bolts and 'flossing' with a strip of sandpaper in the joint (grit side against the neck heel of course). I check the line-up with a jig, and adjust until the centre line is spot on. This also gives a good joint between the neck and body.
The end result is a neck that is correct in the three main dimension planes. I tend to ignore the other 7 non-temporal dimensions as they are wrapped up in a Plank scale Calabi-Yau manifold and are not likely to bother us here.
Last thing to do today is to fit a heel cap. The heel is trimmed to length and a heel cap prepared from a cut off of the the finger board with some pear and black. This is then glued to the heel, slightly over size.
Finally, the heel cap is blended into the heel.
Well it looks like a guitar now.

I am sure I have read that Calabi Yau manifolds have to do with super string theory. I didn't realise it meant guitar strings! This has certainly helped my understanding of Quantum Physics!

Very nice indeed, Colin. What's the width at the nut, please, and the radius too, if you don't mind, as it appears to be flat. Apologies if you've already posted it.
