Here's a short piece I composed for bicycles; app.box.com/s/z08j7ozseovizxvcr8f3I used ' Audacity ' for the recording and mixing as it's a FREE and powerful sequencer; audacity.sourceforge.net/Now, you might wonder ' what's the point of playing a bicycle ? ' Feel free. The piece actually has lyrics and I'm contemplating posting the whole thing in ' The Plucky Duck '. Of course, I can be dissuaded .

That was great, colan , I especially loved the pedal notes, which really spoke to me. Well recorded, with no dropouts. Keith

Did a chain of events lead to this idea? Sorry.
It's more musical than a lot of music I've heard on conventional instruments. More successful than I recall my experiments were with musique concrete many, many, many years ago.
It has rises and falls in tempo and tension too .....what's not to like!
I'm intrigued by the thought of the version with lyrics.

Indeed it did. The framework was constructed, circa. 1984 , when a TAD292 Open University tutor saddled me with the task of writing a duet for bicycle and sheep. I've still got the cassette tape somewhere and I recall many close encounters with village bikes. One such recent encounter rekindled the project- albeit written without any ' bahs ' as I'm short of a sheep.

Here are the lyrics; 'A campus collision'
Toffs, on podiatric rotors sampling their quiet of day Plebs, astride mosquitoed motors bevved and revved the quiet away
Enraged, the pedal-powered commuters trampled the offending scooters ( several dozen angered reps of Campagnolo quadriceps ) Alarm ! Alarm ! Alarm bells clang and wreckage round quadrangles rang Pumps and pillions checked and decked and giving it some plantar aspect.
Cyclops cyclist, hero-like, extracting a surviving bike surrenders to his urge to flee a cultural catastrophe.OK- so it ain't Laureate material. Irrefutably challenging, nonetheless.

That's made me even more intrigued at the thought of hearing the version with lyrics. Seriously good lyrics and I like the rhythmic power in the way you've used the words. Shame about the sheep shortage. I've been keeping an eye on the small ads to see if any sheep are looking for a job as a vocalist but no luck yet. I'll refer them on to you if I see one. Mark

I'll post it on The Duck. Don't worry about the sheep though. She was actually a goat- but the OU tutor didn't suss it. Also, due to the wonders of digital audio and sampling, Poppy's vocals are immortalised.

If you wrote a duet you could play it on a tandem

Just loved it. In a former life I was a bike mechanic and frame builder and this brought back so many fond memories
