That's beautiful, Brian. There are so many really talented players , thousands and thousands of them. We're really fortunate that we live in the communications era. It must rub off on us all eventually.

Gald you enjoyed it colan. In a world blighted by Facebook, Twitter and the like, it is good to be reminded of the joy of access to inspirational talent that the Internet can bring. The CD of Derek Grippers performance is superb. I play it frequently and hear something special every time. His web site is worth a visit too, HERE, where he makes available tabs of the kora talks and much else besides on a "pay what's you think it is worth basis". Brian

I was fortunate enough to see toumani diabate with ali farka toure about ten years ago, supproting Cesaria Evora from Cape Verde, back when our local theatre was more adventurous with their choice of acts. I suspect that, like me, most of the audience had little idea about this sort of music back then. And yet, when I went to buy a cd during the interval, they had sold out. Gives you hope somehow. Toumani Diabate has to be one of the most pre-eminent musical talents in the world - an astonishing talent. If you can find it, there was an excellent review/interview with him in Songlines where they discussed the different styles of kora playing from different parts of the region. Well worth hunting down.
And thanks for posting the Derek Gripper - not someone I had come across. Really beautiful stuff.
Here's one of my favourites:
