What a song. What a singer! Thanks for posting this Andrew.
It was written in 1964. That's over 50 years that its sentiment has been ignored. I very much fear it will always be so.

The story goes that she wrote the lyrics on a napkin in a coffee shop - and sold them to someone for the price of a cup of coffee. She had to wait some years, and pay considerably more, to get the rights back. I don't know if that's apocryphal or not. It's the opening number in my 'songs with a social conscience' set
