I've been offered what I think is an absolute bargain. It's a 20 year old Marshall 100 watt head with 2 speaker cabs. Trouble is, although it's in fantastic condition, the volume control is stuck at maximum. Is this such a bargain that I won't be able to turn it down?

Is this such a bargain that I won't be able to turn it down? Of course you can't turn it down - the sodding knob's stuck... eh? What? No, YOU shut up...

Tippex over the "11", and write a "2" instead. If it sounds too loud, look at the volume control and think to yourself " but I've only got it on 2." Sorted. You're welcome

Surely it's an easy fix, for a tech. if you want it, go for it. After all, it is a bargain.

What is the head? The speaker cabs alone could be more than £200!
Should be a fairly straight forward repair to sort the volume dial.

20 year old? If it's valve then that will be a jcm900? The head's are worth around 300ish depending on the model. The SLX is the best model with the signal path being more valve and the other having some diodes for gain. 100W head an two cabs in good conditon is a good buy at less than 600. I certainly wouldn't pay more and that's if they are in mint condition. Add the faults into the deal and I'd be looking at 400 or less to make it a good buy. I'd be curious to know more about it.

Doh! ;-) If that had shown as a pic or I'd clicked on the link I wouldn't have got all excited... I've got a 6 marshall's in the house at the moment (70's and 80's models) so I'm always interested in old ones. I'll go back to my learning some tunes on my taylor and remember this isn't a heavy rock forum

Sorry about that, Johnp. One day I'll learn that God didn't mean me to be funny. But today's not the day!
