Yes, I know I've been banging on about these two for a few years now, and I know that awards shows aren't necessarily representative of what is great, or even good, but I do agree with J&B being chosen as Duo of the Year, and from a superb selection of nominees too. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/Rdcvm12ST6lY2vctrhK8k5/folk-awards-2015-the-winnersHere's a vid of them from last year - Looking forward to meeting them this weekend at Halsway Manor, once I've tortured one of my guitars into DADGAD.... ocarolan, following your earlier posts, I bought a couple of their CDs. I am now completely hooked. Their musicianship and Josienne's vocals have really got to me. Every time I play their songs I hear something fresh. I hope they win the Folk Award - they certainly deserve it. Good luck at Haksway Manor. Better the excitement of the Devil's Tuning than the anodyne safety of the missionary position... Brian

........... I hope they win the Folk Award - they certainly deserve it............. Brian ....er, they did win the Duo award - sorry if that wasn't clear! Pity they didn't win the CD of the Year award too, though they were nominated for it. My cunning plan for the weekend is to take another guitar in a proper tuning so I don't have to keep tuning out of DADGAD! Detailed timetable received yesterday - looks pretty full on, though the bar does open at 18.00 hours each day so maybe the evenings might be more relaxed that it might seem.... Keith

The vid will probably disappear from the BBC site in time, but it's on Youtube now - Keith

Well that's pretty damn fine I reckon. Did you notice him wince at 0.19 when he ever so slightly muffed a note? Beautifully played and sung (though I preferred to listen rather than watch as I found her right hand rather distracting).

Yup, slight but definite goof! He so rarely makes any kind of noticeable error - he certainly played everything perfectly last Sat night. They were both unbelievably nervous having to perform that night, and it is hard to just step up and do one song perfectly - easier in a set when there's time to get into it. I also find Josie's hand distracting sometimes, but again I think the nervousness made it worse on that occasion. Also odd how her left arm tends to hang motionless for much of the time. She does get teased about both!
But, as you say, pretty damn fine!

Yep must be really hard to have to come on stage or TV to perform one number, cold.

.... I found her little 'eccentricities' (for want of a better word) quite captivating to be fair. I thought her phrasing of words and arm movement added to the feel of the song ..... well, I just liked the thing as a whole. Lovely singing, great song and as a bonus, deadgooddadgad playing.
Paul.
