I've been listening to a guitarist by the name of Chuck Johnson recently, who's excellent. A little in the Fahey/Basho style of things.

I have his Crows in the Basilica lp and have ordered the new one. We have a great weekly radio show down under and the dj (another ex pat like me) plays lots of instrumental/ American primative stuff each week called Sideways through Sound. The last 4 episodes are always available online check them out: www.2ser.com/component/k2/itemlist/category/198The show has featured Chuck Johnson and earlier this year had a couple of John Fahey tribute episodes with Jack Rose on.

Crows in the Basilica is excellent. It took me a while to get into it but it really is fantastic. Looking forward to his new album, it seems a bit more diverse in instrumentation. Thanks for the link for the radio show, it looks just like the kind of music I listen to. When it comes to 'American Primitive' or 'New Primitive' as I like to refer to it (the new wave of Fahey/Basho/etc influenced fingerpicking) have you heard of a guitarist by the name of Rod Poole? FWIW I think he's up there with the best of them, but his untimely death possibly prevented his music from deserving the acclaim I believe he should have.

Never heard of Rod Poole what albums do you recommend? I'm currently enjoying Nick Jonah Davies' House of Dragons.

Rod Poole recorded two albums, Death Adder and December '96, each album consists of one hour long track. They aren't the easiest listens but they can be very rewarding. I saw NJD support Steffen Basho Junghans a few years ago. Fine guitarist.
