Hot off the press and this is certainly no disappointment! This is great acoustic music — banjos (yes a lot of them), melodeon accordion, violin and guitars — great songs and tunes, both traditional and new.
Simpson has worked with Cutting for a few years now. Since i first heard him with Chris Wood, many years ago, I've reckoned him to be one of the very best musicians working here in any genre. Nancy Kerr (who I first met when she was very young) has played for years with husband James Fagan and is a great singer, violin player and now songwriter.
The playing and singing here is exemplary. The range is fantastic from jaunty dances and songs to dark and brooding material.
Despite his undoubted technique I know some people are not always sure about Simpson but here musicality wins over everything else. He contributes a number of superb original songs. Cutting's accordion is everywhere and Nancy Kerr's single, Dark Honey, is – well — a perfect single. Indeed, all of Nancy's songs are lovely.
Although quite a bit of it is contemporary it has a nice traditional feel — music from both sides of the Atlantic.
Well worth searching out.

Andy,
I met Andy Cutting for the first time last year at Burwell where he was teaching Accordian/Melodian - what a lovely talented man and a great sense of humour. I also met Nancy many years back at Burwell when she was teaching fiddle there and really like her and James Fagan's playing. I'll look this one out.

Cutting is indeed a superb player. One of my fondest memories was about 20 years ago watching him and Chris Wood mesmerise a French crowd at the St Chartier Festival. Yes, he is older than he looks! Nancy once babysat for my son when he was little! James Fagan is a great guy. I remember looking after him in Birmingham and taking him out for a curry one night - we then played music for a while and I remember he had never heard of Martin Simpson then - mind you he was living on a barge in the Home Counties and Simpson was still in the USA.
This album grows on you as well!

I got my copy this morning and, from a first run through, it is an absolute delight. The accompany DVD that accompanies the de luxe edition is well worth the money. The trio are going to tour later in the year and I shall do my utmost to get to one of their concerts. Thanks andyhowell for the tip. Brian
