Not sure if everyone has discovered this yet. In this series Eric Skye has thirty short videos designed to give us toips and something to funk about every day for 30 days. Her covers approach, technique, posture and almost anything you can think of. I'm about 8 days in so far and finding the series fascinating and useful.

Thanks for posting about this Andy.
I had to get past an initial mis-reading of the thread title as Erik Sykes which gave me a very incorrect picture of what the thread was to be like. His appearance in a comedy sketch about guitar with John Williams immediately sprang to mind.
Not viewed many of the videos yet, but some interesting pointers already, including how I can use a metronome and not feel too constrained by it. That's one step forward for me straight away - I've never got on with playing along with one of those. I'm interested that he includes a video on listening - a very critical area for managing improved guitar playing.

Very interesting. The idea of setting the metronome to half the speed that you want to play something is simple but, on the face of it, very effective. Just got to try it now.

It's astonishing how much freedom is given to the playing by that simple change - suddenly putting some expression into the playing while using a metronome is possible after all - I've always found one to be a straitjacket until now. You only really need the first beat in every bar, so use whatever speed gets slow enough for that to work. Anything more than one beat per bar from a metronome is brain mangling. Beat one in each bar still gives you a little scope for expression within the bar without the metronome telling you off! Keith

Using two beats is fine as Eric said, but it really doesn't work for 3/4 and 6/8 :-) One beat is enough! Certainly enough for you to sit behind the beat!

Actually 6/8 can work very well with two beats - just the right pulse for jigs - PINEapple APricot. Keith
