Hey guys - I ran a weekend here at Halsway Manor with Ben Walker this year, and I'm looking at doing something again in 2016 - what I'd like to know from everyone is what kind of content they'd be interested in - one tutor or a couple, best time of year etc. I'd like to complement and not clash with other events.
All input much appreciated

We've now got a likely date of 1st-3rd July 2016 for a residential guitar weekend here at Halsway Manor, West Somerset. We're pretty easily reached form Taunton, which is itself an easy train journey from much of the country.
What I'd love to hear form you guys is WHO you'd like to see at a workshop weekend... subject to availability I know Ben Walker is happy to come back, but I'm also looking to expand the number of tutors.
So - let me know if there's anyone you'd like to study with and we'll see what we can make happen!

. gavdav ..it'd be great to have Ben again, that's for sure. Would you be up for doing something yourself with multicourse instruments Gav? That could be fun too! Keith

I'd love to - we're also hoping to move towards a citterns and bouzoukis thing in the future so maybe that's a good place for a dry run!

All of a sudden the journey seems quite tempting...

It'd be very interesting to see a focus on bouzouki/OM type instruments

Ok, this is shaping up as a distinct possibility. is this something people would like alongside more general guitar content? I know a lot of us play bouzouki/mandola/cittern etc. as "second" instruments. I might have to start a new bouzouki/cittern thread in the other instruments board to pick people's brains about it...

OK - I have a date of 1st-3rd July 2016 here at Halsway Manor - I have one tutor pencilled in so far (the frankly Excellent Ian Stephenson, who has worked with KAN, 422, Kathryn Tickell, Alistair Anderson, Baltic Crossing and many more) and am enquiring about others. Ian is interested in doing a 'holistic guitar' approach to cover right and left hand, dexterity, chord choices, tunings, melody playing and ornamentation... I'm just enquiring about a DADGAD tutor (Ben Walker can;t do the date next year), and I will run sessions on guitarists moving to double course instruments (cittern, bouzouki, mandola etc). It is likely to be around £200-£250 full board for the weekend with some cheaper options available.
There'll be a Saturday night concert, chances to jam and at least one maker and set up person on hand.
I am now very much open to suggestions of who you'd like to see as a tutor. And if you're a maker who fancies showing off your wares then I'm also amenable to finding some spaces. I can also find funding for some youth bursaries.
Let me know!!

Excellent news Gav. I'm up for it just as it stands! Anything/one else at all would be a bonus! Keith

How about Johnny Moss as a tutor. I met him at Ian's recent gathering and was seriously considering approaching him about some tuition anyway!

Thanks for positive comments and enthusiasm. I THINK I have a lineup - am waiting to hear back from a couple of people, but I'll post here as soon as it is confirmed. There'll be four tutors including myself and looks like we will have the excellent Sam Carter (subject to contract) joining Ian Stephenson with the fourth tutor just checking their availability.
