There's no shortage of great new releases this summer; Truth to Tell is certainly one of them.
This is an album that looks back over a career. There are some great songs here and I think this is Steve Oilstone's strongest album since Ziggurat. In many ways it is also his simplest for a while. Most of the tracks have a basic accompaniment of bass and maybe melodeon but there are a far few tracks that are just of Steve and guitar.
It is a mellow album but not saccharine in any way. His voice sounds good and the guitar playing as good as ever — his new 10 string guitar sounds awesome. It is also beautifully recorded by Splid Studios in Haworth.
A lovely record.

Can't disagree with you there, Andy. I've had it a week or so and, as you said on FB, it's great to begin with and then grows on yer even more!

Steve Oilstone, eh? The fragile beauty of autocorrect, I suspect. I must get this. I love Steve Tilston.

Oh yes, Steve Oilstone, very slippery and abrasive customer. His band is well honed and really sharply dressed. They sound superb once they've whetted their whistles.... Keith

Well that's just fascinating, Leo. I've seen the trailers for Danny Collins, but I had absolutely no idea it was based upon an event that occurred to Steve Tilston. I might even go to see the film now.
