Martin, that had me in stitches...great pics of the final product and great pics all the way through. Well done. How does it sound? Looks like you might have clear fluorocarbon strings on it?? Ken's?? I presume a guitar is next for you Thanks Gav! It sounds amazing So much better than I would have thought, and I'll try to record something with it at some point. The strings are fluorocarbon, but they're Martin strings. They sound and feel great, though No guitar is planned (at least not one that I'll build), but it was such good fun, I wouldn't rule it out. Might even take the same course again next year if it's on

Hi Martin,
great reading back through your days in the shop. the scene from ghost pic had me belly laughing... on that note.... just to clarify, it was eighties movie soundtrack day and we only usually listen to dirty dancing on Tuesdays!
fantastic work, you both made amazing instruments and the stress didn't show at all... honest.
we'll give you a shout when the acoustic show stock is ready for a sneaky peak before we hit the road.

Ian, it's great to see you've joined up and had a look at the thread. I'm sure it shows everyone involved in a good light, except of course for those cheesy 80's music moments Thanks again for a wonderful experience and all the excellent tuition. Looking forward to seeing your new builds when they're done

Well done Martin, you can come down as my apprentice any time you like ( I need someone to sweep the floor) It's a great feeling isn't it to make music on something that you have made yourself.
On the finish, yes I'd get yourself some Liberon (it's what I use) and add some more coats. I put about 8-10 coats on the B&S and neck and 6-8 on the top. I apply mine slightly differently, but definitely put a few more coats on.

I'll bring the cakes It's a fab feeling as you say, and i still feel surprised to have something very decent at the end. Thanks also for the finishing advice. I was probably going to apply more coats, and certainly intend to now.

This has been a brilliant thread Martin. Superbly documented and obviously a wonderful experience. I'm in awe of your achievement - what a great looking instrument - really looking forward to having a go of it at Halifax. We could play ukulele conkers too if you like. Keith

What a lovely experience you provide. I'm well jealous of Martin, and only the distance from Somerset stops me from signing up on your uke building course right away. Congrats on your patience dealing with Martin over the past few weeks! Keith

Although it's lovely the way it is, I've just ordered some 0000 mesh, oil and cloths to keep working on the finish over the next few weeks. Can't be bothered to keep taking the strings off though
