I'm big fan of the lute's ancestor/cousin, the oud. Well to listen, not to play. The lack of frets and number of strings is a daunting prospect...

Played by the right person, they do, colins ... I imported your lute CD into itunes and listen to it often!

As I have difficulty getting 6 strings in tune (with geared tuners) I think trying to tune (or watching someone else try to tune) a lute with friction tuners would probably send me over the edge
