Ok, so it clashes with HB6, and maybe colins has more experience but, for £15, I'd've had a day out Try A Lute Day

If I remember, I could bring one to HB6 and you could have a go there. Mind you by the time we get the thing in tune it'll probably be time to come home.
But, they do sound wonderful.

Colin Superb. I'm big fan of the lute's ancestor/cousin, the oud. Well to listen, not to play. The lack of frets and number of strings is a daunting prospect...

Played by the right person, they do, colins ... I imported your lute CD into itunes and listen to it often! As I have difficulty getting 6 strings in tune (with geared tuners) I think trying to tune (or watching someone else try to tune) a lute with friction tuners would probably send me over the edge
