Many years ago, I was sitting alone at home late one night listening to bumbling Bob Harris (bless him) and an acoustic blues guitarist came on with a deep, gravel voiced Southern drawl. In those days, I used to have my tape deck on pause to record all the late night gems. I didn't want the tape to run out so I hit the pause button when they talked a lot. Something I've always regretted. It was the first time I'd heard John Campbell and he was promoting his One Believer album (one of the best recorded albums I've heard). He had his guitar and played a stunning solo acoustic version of the song in the link (the interesting bit starts at 3:30). I bought his follow up album and was gutted to hear that he had died in his early 40s (in the early 90s) shortly after. I don't know why I had a youtube trawl for him tonight. I just got that feeling. I'll have to trawl through my collection of old tapes to try and find the radio recording. I hope I still have it. I always remember the wonderful tone of his guitar. I'm sure his national guitar was a famous one - owned by someone of historical importance, but I just can't remember. Person to Person
