Just back from the Dean Friedman gig at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.
For years he has been one of my favourite songwriters - with songs that can be folk, jazz, rock, country, easy listening... a man that, I know, is looked upon scornfully by some 'proper' songwriters but he has been an inspiration to me in my efforts.
A 2 hour set (with an interval) meant he got the chance to play all of his 'hits'. Just him and a guitar, or him and a piano (and, for one song only, him and a ukulele)
I was excited (sad, yes, but that's me) to buy his new, hot off the press book "The Songwriter's Handbook" (along with some other stuff). Who knows, I might even improve!
I had forgotten how funny some of his songs are...
