Hi,
Here's an update on this, my pre Xmas thread. Santa brought me a tablet; he found a Lenovo Yoga 2 which is good as it has a built in 'stand' so you don't have to prop it up.
I spent a few 'happy' hours looking at various apps (big learning curve for me as I'd never used a tablet and rarely an app even on my phone). Looked at at least 6, on the web and YouTube. Trialled 3, bought 2 (returned one as too complicated) kept one. Bearing in mind my main wish list was
--ability to be able to transfer my approx. 300 song list currently as paper copies and word docs on laptop into the tablet app with minimal fuss
--ability to have the songs saved on the hard drive of the tablet and not floating around somewhere in cyber space (cloud) and needing an internet connection to access them
--ability to be able to edit them easily, make them the right size to read and, importantly, have an easily controllable scroll facility with speed alteration.
--ability to organise into set lists (not so much for playing large sets, but e.g. an A list; a Fingerstyle list, easy search via artist etc etc)
I have no real need to have fancy things like backing tracks, mp3 files, drum patterns, which some do.
I chose an app called lyricpad, made by an aussie guy, approx. £3.75. Pretty intuitive to use but, importantly, there is a reasonable help/faq section on the app and a great Forum where you can pose a technical question and I've had an immediate and relevant answer each time. It doesn't look like the most comprehensive app, but it does, simply, what I want.
The transfer of the songs from my laptop in Word is dead easy; what takes more time is to add the chords on the file in the app where I've been lazy and not put them on the word doc (if I want to that is) and setting up the font size and scroll speed; its not difficult at all but takes perhaps 5 mins a song in total.
I've now got about 50 songs from my A list on the tablet app and doing a few a day will soon do the main ones.
I think you've got to be a bit of a Virgo to do this i.e. like things organised and tidy and accessible. But the end product of having 300 songs on my tablet, to take anywhere home or abroad without huge paper files; backed up and safe so I can't lose them is my idea of a good thing.
If anyone wants any more detailed info feel welcome to PM me or email or ask on nhere but it may be boring for most.
Regards
FFJ
