Hi, Just a question about where people buy their woods and stuff for guitar builds?
I principally use David Dyke but have purchased from ToneTech, Touchstone Tonewoods and SW&ML Keys. Never had a problem with David Dyke or Touchstone and Tonetech. Keys supplied some nice Amazique B&S sets for me but the bridge blanks were not up to scratch.
When the pound / dollar rate was better (many years ago!) I bought a batch of soundboards from High Mountain Tonewoods, BC, Canada - Just wish the exchange rate was back there again - superb Lutz spruce - still have one set left for something special...

For tops it's David Dyke most of the time. I might buy a nice soundboard set and a couple of cheaper ones, which are still really nice in terms of sound quality as I like the unusual features of the cheaper soundboards that perhaps more pro luthiers would avoid like the plague. So far David Dykes has not disappointed me with regard to the quality of anything they send me. Have brought from Madinter before with no problems: www.madinter.com/ .Now I am building again after a frustrating three year hiatus (yay; new, larger workshop!) I might treat myself... Otherwise it's my local wood supplier for boards that I can rip into sides, necks, bridges, etc.

If you are looking for some English grown timbers, Kevin Aram in your county is supposed to have some nice sets (eg Yew).
Heard a lot of good things about Rivolta and Berkmann for European Spruce.

Thanks Dave - not used Timberline before... Bob Smith is a great feller, and knows his timber, but don't expect any bargains! If you're planing on spending a fair bit it's worth travelling to mainland Europe to visit the spruce dealers, flights are cheap enough these days. There's nothing quite like sorting through a few hundred tops or more to get a feel for the stuff. And if you're there in person, cash card in hand you will get a better price. nigel www.nkforsterguitars.com

Thanks Nigel, Sadly not buying in bulk, but the thought of sifting through a pile of quality timber is enticing...
