Picked the guitar up this morning to prepare for a gig tonight. New strings are needed and also a new pickup battery. In natural sunlight there was no mistake. The guitar is filthy, grease smears on the soundboard, spittle gunk along the top side and the unmistakable shape of guitar rest sucker pads on the bottom side.
Am I a really bad guitar parent? Or am I not alone?

Yes it is just you Andy. Go and sit on the naughty step. I'd rather we played our guitars than polished them.

Well I like to play and polish my guitars - can't stand seeing any smears which I have to wipe off with a duster. I occasionally even use Gibson Pump polish (probably against luthier advice) so they positively sparkle and smell nice If they are on the wall hangers and I am doing some vacuum cleaning I like to vac the pegheads and below the strings above the bridge as well So yes you are a slightly bad guitar parent in my view Phil

MM Andy probably not a good idea to eat a bacon cob whilst you are playing although I do hear that HP sauce is good at keeping a mahogany guitar dark Perhaps you have just been having lessons from Willie Nelson about how he looks after his guitar its never done him any harm

Brilliant! I get slobbery and Guinnessy drips along the bass side shoulder!
I "dust" mine now and again, and at each string change I wipe around with a micro-fibre cloth and some huuuurring if necessary to get stubborn stains off.

Can't understand not wanting to look after a thing of beauty and pleasure. And my guitar also falls into that category.

Beats guitar playing any day... :irony:
