I can't get the saddle out of my 1986 Vicente Sanchis classical guitar. Is it possible that it might have been glued in? I've had no trouble with any of my other guitars, whether bone or plastic.

Have you tried to "drift" it out along its length with a screwdriver (pref with blade similar size to cross section of saddle) applied to one end and some gentle taps on the screwdriver handlewith a huge small hammer?

Keith Thanks, Keith. I've tried placing the screwdriver near the base of the saddle and doing that, and also tried to get it underneath but didn't manage it. Perhaps I could have hit it a bit harder but it was nerve-wracking to do. The blade is about the same width as the saddle, and very thin so you'd think it would go underneath. I've also tried grabbing it with pliers and pulling it upwards but I can't get a good grip on it. I don't think I'm the only person on the forum who has neurotic episodes in relation to their guitars and starts faffing about. 'Appen I should wait till I'm feeling a bit calmer .

Why are you trying to remove it? You say you've tried with a pair of pliers and by that I expect you mean you have tried to pull the saddle out by gripping it from above and pulling up. Try gripping the saddle at one end with the pliers and use a small piece of wood between the pliers and the bridge to act as a pivot point:

Thanks francis. I love the diagram! I'll try that tomorrow. Every so often I get the urge to swap my saddles around different guitars to get the best combination of action heights. It's all a getting a bit out of hand, really. Some people enjoy having lots of guitars but I feel cluttered up. Everything is out of control. What do you do with an ancient guitar that you're probably not going to play any more, but has a bit of sentimental value?

After all that, francis I'm having second thoughts about removing the saddle. I've done a circuit of my guitars again this morning with a more rational head on, measuring the slots and whatnot. On reflection I think both classicals should stay as they are. I'm just left with one flamenco guitar that has slightly higher action than I'd like, so I might just take it to someone to have it lowered, and leave it at that. Sorry to have put you and ocarolan to all that trouble, but I still enjoyed looking at your diagram for its artistic merit.

I can always supply you with another classical.... If my other two get crushed by falling boulders or something, I'll take you up on that.
