I recently bought another flamenco guitar to keep at the Respectable Gentleman's, as being unable to play at weekends and holiday was traumatic. The ones I tried locally just gave me a sinking feeling, so I got the cheapest of the Camps flamenco guitars - an M something 5. The action was a bit higher than I would have liked, so I decided to try and make my own bone saddle from a blank.
I held it against the existing saddle using Blue Tac, and carefully drew a pencil line which would leave it a bit lower than the existing one. Using a Stanley knife I painstakingly scribed a mark to work to. Then I had a brilliant idea - as I don't have a vice, why not simply use the Stanley knife to score all the way through it? After a couple of hours meticulous cutting I decided it wasn't working. By this time the knife was blunt.
And so to Plan B. Ask the Respectable Gentleman, who has a vice and files, to do it for me. He examined it carefully and asked, "Which line would you like me to file it to?" Luckily he managed to rescue the job, and the lower bone saddle is now fitted.
It's so much easier to play and, amazingly, it sounds a lot better! Who'd have thought it?

Sounds good, especially now it sounds better too. I've visited Camps Guitars many times as my friend lives in Banyoles and is a good friend of the owners. Here's a thread on here about my first visit. Jonny
