Champion interview - from a really nice bloke, too. He's made me feel welcome each of the times I've visited even though he knew I wasn't ordering a guitar (although I WAS once bringing the Roadtrip guitar back ) So, a question - it seems that Luthiers never really make a shed load of money (though that rarely seems to be their motivation) until an artist 'endorses' their guitars... If Rory could choose an musician to do that, who would he pick, and why?

Thoroughly enjoyed reading that Martin - thanks to you and to Rory for getting it together. The decorative heel cap/back treatment on one of the pics was lovely, but must have been timeconsuming! Just one question though Rory, and you can maybe guess what it is.....cedar top Tirga Beag...? Keith

Another interesting read, well done !!
Being a Scot something inside me says I should aim to own a Taran: a.) Because they are good b.) Because it's made in Scotland
But I'll have to save up and work on the wife. I got into trouble because I forgot to mention my last purchase, so now would not be a good time......ho hum

Hi Folks,
Thanks for taking a moment to read this and many thanks to Martin for all of his time. I really enjoyed doing it.
Good question Leo! I always wanted to build John Martyn a guitar, alas. I've enjoyed working with Matheu Watson over the years, I was talking to him today and he's got some ideas for a new guitar after his work on the new trans atlantic sessions. So really I enjoy working with players who are looking to develop a guitar. Any suggestions?
Ah Yes the Cedar Tirga Beag!! Well, maybe later this year Ocarolan. I've got some projects that I would like to get started, the Mandolins are burning a hole in the bench but you'll be the first to know. One question Walnut or Rosewood?
All the very best,
Rory

Thanks for reply Rory - cedar/walnut or cedar/rosewood? Hmmmm. Either would I'm sure make a great guitar, but I suspect I might veer slightly towards walnut , or even some decent mahogany.....? Your other existing planned projects sound exciting too - all the best for them, and thanks for doing this interview with Martin. Keith

Great interview with a thoroughly nice and talented chap!
Rory, couple of questions; 1) What is the most challenging commission you have recieved? 2) What is the most interesting repair you have had to undertake?

Hi Mark,
Many thanks!
The most challenging order was for a Bouzouki. The cilent was great, but it was a real learning curve getting the archtop right. Pleased with them now! Repairs, a C1 Martin archtop. It needed a neck reset, great to see and spend time with an instrument like that.
All the best,
Rory
