I have always fancied playing a ukulele but know very little about them i.e. whats a reasonable make, what should you pay for a good one etc. I have gone on a couple of ukulele forums and have been blinded with science, so I thought there must be some closet ukulele players here. I am after a middle of the road model so if I do enjoy it, I won't have to upgrade for a while. Also I would like something with a decent size neck width to accomadate my flat finger tips. So does anyone have any recommendations, I am more than prepared to invest in a flat cap but my wife has said no to the whippet. Kind regards Roger

I paid £99 for an all mahogany Westfield concert uke with cool tweed style hard case, and I'm very happy with it

Kind regards Roger Mahalo tenor (bit more finger room) uke, around £65 inc hard case is what I use. It works once you lower the nut and bridge, and put some Aquila strings on. Nice. Good luck! Keith

Ukes are great. My 4 month old son loves it when I play uke. I have had a tenor fluke for years but recently upgraded to a Clancy concert sized uke. Craig Clancy is an Aussie Luther check out Clancy stringed instruments on Facebook.

I'd imagine a whippet may be even harder to play properly than a ukulele, not to mention more difficult to balance

Soprano whippets are reasonably managable, but yes, tenor whippets can indeed be a bit of a handful Martin.
