It's now been nearly 6 months since I took possession of my above guitar. I post at the bottom link to the build thread and also the sound link So people can hear what it sounds like.
First the technical stuff it was started on 5 August 2015 and completed by Dave on 12 November 2015 it's number 86 in the List of guitars built by Dave. The scale length is 630 MM the top is Lutz spruce the back and sides Sapele. The headstock is Etimoe b/w/b back and front. lower bout width is 380 mm upper bout iower is 275 mm. the overall length is 1010 MM
The waist width is 210 mm in the maximum rim depth is 115 mm.
It has a Florentine cutaway the sound hole rosette is 104 MM Etimoe Central ring surrounded by b/w/b purling. The neck is so Sapele with scarfe joint and stacked he'll, Bolt on with two-way adjustable truss rod and twin carbon fibre rods. 13 frets clear of the body.
It has a side Soundport on base side upper bout. The tuners are Rubner with ebony buttons. It's a bone nut 49mm and a bone saddle 60mm. The bridge is Macasser ebony 12 string tailpiece.
The fingerboard is Ebony bound with Ebonyb/w/b purfling.Etimoe heel capb/w/b veneers.
strap buttons are gold on base side up at bout and end graft. The finish is handwrapped pre-catalysed lacquer.
The string widths 0.012",01016",0.021"/0.010",0.029",/0.014",0.039"/0/018", 0.049"/0.026" for E-E tuning
Woods used Lutz spruce top, sound hole patch, top braces European spruce back braces. Etimoe bindings, Headstock veneers, rosette ring, end graft and cap..Bubinga bridge plate
Ebony fingerboard and tuna buttons. Maccasser ebony bridge. Poplar purflings. Lime end block.
In pre-build discussions as you would expect Dave asked me what I wanted from it and I indicated that To me playability and easy playability were the most important things.
I also wanted a cutaway and not the traditional shape 12 string. Dave has incorporated all my requests so well and constant comment from my guitar club Friends and anybody who picks up the guitar is how easy it is to play.
For the first week I had this guitar, the English translation is Big thunder, I couldn't put it down, the sound is superb the sustain is incredible. Unlike many 12 string guitars it capos well a.
I have made a recording of a well-known tune in order you can hear some of its abilities but I hope some of you will have a play at Halifax in the autumn.
This is a beautifully made guitar and is now one of my most treasured possessions I'm still experimenting with it and will be trying some different tunings although Dave has said that he recommends different weight strings for D-D tuning.
Dave has done a superb job here as he did with Leo's this machine is a testament to his skill.
