Hi Guys
Have just purchased and EKO Bravo 6 guitar, not sure how to tell the year of build but told it is 1981, it is in very good condition except for the bridge pegs and bridge which is showing wear commensurate with it's age. Does anyone have any experience with this model? I have put some Martin light gauge strings on it and it is sounding tinny!! Looking for a good set of strings to bring the best out of it. Anyone got any advice on this one?
Thank you

Congrats! A piece of history there. I, like many others at the time, had a Ranger 6 (and a Ranger 12) which wasn't as posh as yours. But all those Ekos were very heavily built and not particularly responsive. Try some 13-56 of whatever you normally use on it and see if that gets it livened up a bit.

I agree with trying heavier strings as above - get that thing vibrating!!

The Eko guitars were ubiquitous in folk clubs in the late 60's and early 70's. I'm not sure what makes the Rio Bravo different from the Ranger. I can see the pickguard and bridge are a different shape, bit is it heavily built and does it have a bolt on neck with a massive block for it to bolt on to?
Like Keith, I had a Ranger 12 (still have it) that I bought in 1969. But it always had a really quiet voice. Heavy gauge strings were out of the question on that because I'd never have been able to play it with 12 strings (I now have it tuned down to C with medium gauge strings on), but heavier strings should, I think, give it a bit more volume.
You could always try a different tuning. Maybe DADGAD or CGCGCD might make a difference. It does on some guitars.

Hi Guys and thanks for the responses.
Strangely after the guitar had 'settled' in to its new home the sound improved??
It sounds really nice at the moment, so have left the light gauge on, will put some heavier ones when they are due to be replaced.
