Clive's new CD arrived yesterday and I took it up the hill with the dogs this morning and the good headphones. It's astoundingly good. The tone and production are top drawer and Clive's playing is sublime. He plays a selection of guitars (listed in the sleeve notes) and the tunes are varied from the sublime to the ridiculous (A Winter Carol, two melodies with different tempos played at once). I hadn't heard any of Clive's playing until I saw him at this year's RMMGA gathering and I was blown away. Having seen him live, his CD doesn't disappoint. I haven't enjoyed a solo fingerstyle album so much since Bensusan's Intuite. There are a few videos around of Clive talking about the album, including a great interview with michaelwatts where he plays snippets of his tunes. thenorthamericanguitar.com/blog/clive-carroll-at-tnag-hq/

Clive is very good. I saw him in Berlin a couple of years ago and be played a piece he had written as a duet for himself and John Renbourn; he played the second part into a looper. Is this on the album?

I don't think so Andy. The middle section of the CD is a suite he plays with John Williams. I think he played the one you mentioned at the RMMGA thing this year. There was certainly one tune with a looper involved.
