Played through a slightly distorted Behringer Vintager amp with a Belcat 'analog' delay. Someone messed about with the switches but I've no idea what that was for. Recorded on a Zoom H2n with no additional effects. Played with additional improvised bends (unintended). Someone told me these had wider necks. Not that you'd notice! And the strings are so light! And the sound comes from over there! 'Appen as 'ow I'll not get an electric after all. soundcloud.com/user208113619/zoom0002I've just put it through Audacity to amplify.

Interesting! The whle tactile thing is very different with electric guitars innit?! Even John Williams didn't stick at it very long, so you're in good company Alison!

Not the usual genre for a Lester - I'm impressed you got the Les Paul to cooperate that well Alison! A whole different feel! Coming the other way from electric to acoustic is also rather a shock to the system as the strings are so more inflexible and you need more force and skill for things like barres. Very different instruments. Mark

I've tried three of the Respectable Gentleman's electrics and they really are a different instrument altogether. I find them difficult to handle on account of their weight as well. It was fun to try them but I don't think a career in electrification is for me.

I believe the newer Les Pauls are often weight relieved (like a swiss cheese but less edible) and may only be around 7 1/2 to 8 lbs. But older and non weight relieved can be a real health hazard - I had a Tokai Les Paul Custom at a bit over 10 lbs and I've seen Les Pauls at over 12 lbs. Cue visits to the physiotherapist! Mark

You could try new strings.
Probably make it easier to tune up.

Forgive my ignorance here but what is that piece of music called? Is it by Vivaldi? I can hear you're all laughing now. I have a lovely Ramirez and it took me three months to learn Bach's Partita in E minor from tab over two editions of Guitarist magazine fifteen years ago. I still play it note for note now.

Mark It is 'weight-relieved', allegedly. I dread to think what a non-relieved one feels like. All the electrics that I've tried have been much too heavy, even the semi-acoustics. I tried to play sitting down, but with the Les Paul I could feel it slipping down all the time, and felt as though I was going to drop it at any minute. I don't need a guitar tattoo; my leg is engraved.

Sorry, I should have said. It's just that I talked about it a few weeks ago when I was first thinking of trying to learn it, and I'm still trying! How did you find learning the Bach? To learn anything by him in three months sounds like good going.

To learn anything by him in three months sounds like good going. The Bach piece was in the back of Guitarist and on the accompanying CD and I just loved it that I made an absolute resolution to learn it. I just found that with every barre I learned it gave me the impetus to learn the next and the next. I was in a Tin Pan Alley shop a few years ago and all the electrics are doing their tapping and shredding and I picked up a little Hofner and started playing the Partita and everyone shut up and when I'd finished a bloke said ''Now THAT is playing the guitar' - I thanked him graciously but little did he know that that was pretty much all I could play apart from a bit of tapping and some shredding here and there.
