Went to see Kris Drever last night, playing with him was Ian Carr. This was a sublime evening of music and if you get a chance to see them on this tour then drop everything! The tour dates are here: krisdrever.comDrever is a young and gifted songwriter, originally from the Orkneys who is now based in the shetlands; he is also a fabulous flat picker. Ian Carr is simply one of the best accompanists you will ever see. They sound these two created was the best I have heard for years. They were using a single mic to record vocals and guitars _ in a small venue this was basically providing a boost to their own sound. Where I was sitting I was basically hearing the natural sound. I'd forgotten how brilliant a dreadnaught can sound in really competent hands! Carr was playing a Collings and Drever a Martin. Simply stunning guitar arrangements.

I saw Ian Carr many years ago at the Gower Folk festival in Wales with Karen Tweed and a few years ago at the Blue Mountains Folk Festival in Aus backing Eddie Reader. Great player. I have Kris's records but haven't had the pleasure of seeing him live.
