Not to do with guitar builds, more amps, but this seemed the best page to use. I go camping quite a bit and, now I have a micro bass, I want to take a small practice amp. However I need to power it. Is there a smallish battery (don't want to use my car) which I guess would need some kind of investor that I could plug a three pin plug into? on the amp spec it says power. 100/240v

You need to look at the current draw, or the power rating. Let's say it's a 10W amp, and let's say you have an inverter at 80% efficiency (cheap one), then you've a total of 12.5W consumption. A 12.5VAh 12V battery would probably give you about 45mins to 50mins before the inverter or amplifier regulator stopped regulating. A car battery is about 60VAh, and you've probably felt the weight of one, if you have one of those then you multiply your life by approx 5. If you play quietly you'll get a lot longer life, and if it's cold weather, you'll get less. An old battery, less time. So the answer is (as all engineering answers): it depends! When I see buskers with amps they generally have a trolley, and my guess is that's mainly for the battery,,, m.

thanks a lot Martin, very useful information. It is what I thought really but I was hoping for some kind of miracle answer lol. Formulas will be useful in helping me make a decision on what to do

Thanks for the however I've already dropped my first booboo! I bought a micro bass which I want to take camping so need a battery powered amp, I know a big ask for a bass. Anyway I saw the PhilJones briefcase which is battery powered but at around £1000 that was more money than I wanted to spend. Then I was browsing eBay and I came across a PhilJones BG100, a smaller version of the briefcase, at a relatively low price, bidded and won it. I'd stupidly assumed it was also battery powered......it's not! However I love this amp great sound so I want to find a way to battery power it. Your formula thing will help me choose size of battery (probably bigger than amp lol) . I've been reading about and the caravan leisure ones appear to be the best option for suitability for usage ie faster drainage than car ones are designed for. Thanks for replying 😃
