Have a listen to this through headphones or a decent speaker.
I have always liked Martin Simpson's live sound but this sounds horrible to me. It reminds me I thought it was not as good as usual when I saw him earlier on this year.
Is it just me or does this sound horribly pickup like?

Just listened through some decent headphones and I agree Andy. Very quacky/piezo sounding to me. Phil

Even on tiny laptop speakers it gives itself away, especially on the lower notes.

Is this since he switched to PRS? No, not at all. He's been playing them for a while now and the sounds has always been very good. I do notice a new preamp there — looks like a Mama Bear which I think might be digital (with different digital 'shapes'). Glad it is not just me though! SaveSave

Don't like to criticise, but not a great sound. Couldn't the sound guy have blended in some of the condenser (?) mic?
I guess we don't know the setup problems on the night, but if it's more than one night it sounds like there's a problem.
(context: speaking as a guitar nerd - probably 95% of the audience wouldn't notice!)

That is a lot of quack for someone who normally takes special care with their live sound.
One of my favorite albums, 'Bootleg USA', is almost 20 year old, and I can't hear the piezo. On YouTube the Carlsbad concert in 2008, with Simpson using his Sobell, has a lovely sound.

The venue - The Convent - usually has very good sound. Something odd just have been happening I guess.
