For a long time I was never happy with any of the straps I purchased online or from a shop. I was never sure whether the thin end or the thick end attached to the heel. The adjustment buckle always rested uncomfortably on my shoulder / back and the end attaching to pickup end was prone to falling off. An autoharp playing friend guided me to Rona Carson's straps4stringsandthings facebook page and my problems were solved. Rona can provide a custom made strap to your specification. All you have to do is measure how long you want the strap from pin to pin and let her know. They're made from buck skin and are available in lots of colours. She charges £30 for each strap which I think is reasonable. More info at www.facebook.com/search/top/?q=straps4stringsandthingsAt the pickup pin end I've used a Tapastring strap connector which has proved to be safe and reliable. www.tapastring.com/strapkeeper0605.htmIain

Same here, Iain. I have straps made to my desired length (but still adjustable in the buckless way that many Levy straps are). I also specified a larger hole for the endpin jack end, which makes life very easy. Bev, ie Tamar Leather, made me one as a trial - her first one to specified measurements, and it was such a success that I ordered another guitar strap plus a mandolin strap. Lovely - completely plain leather. bernd and Leo have ordered more ornate ones too. I'm not sure if she still does her leatherwork though - her F/B page hasn't been used much lately - www.facebook.com/TamarLeather/Keith PS - do you have matching outfits for each strap - just seen your blue get up on F/B!
