I had a fancy for a small bodied guitar and whilst browsing the ‘net, before going out on the hunt, I had spotted a sweet Cort parlour, which put the idea of a nice, well made, reasonably priced parlour, in my head. Although I was open to other ideas, within a fairly limited budget.
So firstly, I tried out a Freshman slope shouldered dread, which wasn’t half bad. Then I played a Tanglewood mini-jumbo, which I preferred. It had a warmer sound and more comfortable feel. Then I spotted the Tanglewood TW73 WN. Now, I have been aware of this model for some time and remember being impressed with one I’d played some years before
As soon as I played this little guitar, I was impressed. It is very solidly made, with pretty decent finishing and some nice woods, to boot. It rang out very pleasantly and sounded very good with a pick, which surprised me, as this guitar is obviously designed with the finger stylist in mind. I’ve had a bias toward the rosewood/spruce end of guitars for some time now but this cedar/mahogany mix, was very pleasing to my ears. Surprisingly vibrant and versatile, this tidy, little guitar is actually quite classy. Especially for a Far East, factory made instrument.
The Tanglewood TW73 WN is a 12 fret, slot headed parlour guitar. The WN, at the end of this model’s moniker, stands for Wide Neck. Wider than the standard TW73’s neck, it’s not that wide at 45mm (nut) - 59mm (14th fret).

This guitar is very easy to play and came very well set-up. It’s a great, fireside noodler and a good songwriter too. The short scale took a little getting used to but , it’s strong tone is very clean and has some sparkle too. A well defined tone and a well defined look too. Excellent, for the price.
