I went out looking for an OM/000 style guitar, under a certain price. Anyways, after a quick look at the cheaper guitars and high-end mandolins, I headed for their sound proof, high-end guitar room. The guy pointed me toward a used Martin OM28 and a Czech made Stanford (Artist 10 series). The Martin was nice but kind of sounded a bit tired, which wasn't just because of the less then new strings. It was a very good price though. The Stanford sounded very loud and vibrant, a sound I could be very happy with but It's looks really didn't grab me and the tuners were really cheap and ugly looking. Next I tried a couple of K'Yairis. Can't recall the models. Good sound and very pleasing on the eye. But not that good. So, no. Then came a used Fylde Orsino. Eeeww no! Just didn't do a thing for me. Lastly came a batch of 5 BSGs. 3 of which were well above my price limit and were not OMs anyway. Of the 2 I could get. One was very decent, in fact quite similar to the Stanford OM I had tried earlier. But the OM15 F Cherry, grabbed me pretty quickly. Initially with it's feel and looks. But the strings were old (to say the least) and the bridge was set too high, making the action at the top-end of the fretboard higher than I like. So the shop's guitar tech restrung and lowered the bridge, in double-quick time to transform this beauty into a players dream. Stats: Head: Slotted, mahogany, with rosewood veneer on the front and quality Gotoh tuners. Neck: mahogany, with ebony fingerboard. Soundboard: Alpine Spruce (very clean), fishbone rossette. Back & Sides: Cherry, Indian rosewood binding. Lovely grain/sapwood, gloss finish. With a sound that oozed charm, particularly in the low and mid range, this BSG OM perhaps lacked a little edge but did have a very smooth, singing tone. Like all BSGs I have played, the finishing and woods are superb. The cherry B&S are truly wondrous to behold.

Love the look of the Cherry although id rather see a maple neck to match the colour more .

I've heard of Cherry being used on guitars - but never actually seen or played one ... it looks lovely.

I had Seagull S6 with Cherry B&S but suffice to say it was nowhere near as pretty as this one!!

Is it a deep body OM? A very pretty guitar indeed.
Always difficult to describe/compare tonewoods but I have read here and there Cherry isn't a million miles away from sharing some tonal properties with Sapele/Mahogany.

Yet another excellent review Graham. I'm really enjoying these! I'm with Derek on the visual aspect of the neck, but despite that it's a fine looking beast.

I quite liked the striking difference between the body and neck.
I used to have a Seagull S6 too, with it's laminated, cherry B&S. Completely different appearance. Must be a different species of cherry?
I'd say that cherry did share some characteristics with mahogany. Perhaps a little smoother sounding.

Please don't take this the wrong way but having read and enjoyed all your reviews Ive been wondering which of the following applies? A) You have the worst case of GAS ever reported! B) You own a guitar shop C) You've reviewed every guitar you've ever owned and are now approaching and age where youre no longer newly eligible for SAGA insurance and holidays D) All the above Seriously that cherry OM looks lovely, do you still own all the guitars you've reviewed? if you do you a lucky man (with a very big music room!)

A) There's some truth in that B) No. But I'm good friends with a few people that do C) I've reviewed a lot of the guitars I have owned. One's I have pics of. There are some gooduns I had before I got a digital camera. D) I started posting reviews that had been in the old forum, 'cause there wasn't much in this new one. They may still be of some use to newbies and oldies alike. I only only own one acoustic, at the moment, the Tak EF407. Though I have a number of electrics.
