So While I'm waiting for the lacquer to harden on the first build and a few bits and bobs to arrive for the drum sander project I thought I'd make a start on the next build which I'm building for my brother. It will be a 12 fret 000 built from African mahogany and sitka, it will be a fairly simple build but there are a few things I'd like to try on this one. The neck blank and heel block are African mahogany from madinter, very cheap but it was a bugger to plane, lots of tear out no mater which angle I tried. Anyway, the neck blank was thicknessed and squared up ready to cut the scarf joint. Now the last neck I made I used a stacked headstock so I needed to do a bit of homework (Alex Willis book in the background). I decided that a high tech jig would be the best option to run it through the bandsaw. After cleaning up with a plane. and a dry test Next up the heel, head block and tail block.

I decided that a high tech jig would be the best option to run it through the bandsaw. It is, nevertheless an effective jig; I cut mine along a pencil line - not so effective and it was done entirely without the aid of beer (of any kind). Seems to look just about the way it should. Good work, ashley.

The jig worked well enough, the mahogany was attached using masking tape and CA glue, which was a tip from Crimson guitars which I use all the time. I must admit I like taking a sneaky beer to the workshop after dinner, unfortunately last night I discovered there was no real beer in the fridge so I had to resort to Bud. Don't worry though, I'm expecting some decent beer with the shopping today š

I'm not sure about connoisseur but I do like a good ale, especially a nice IPA š» Also not sure about guitar maker, I'll let you know if the first one doesn't self destruct when it gets strung up for the first time.

š ok now we've established I'm a connoisseur of fine ales I think moving forward I'll ensure no opinions on beer are given and stick to the attempt at making the guitar š

Episode 2 in his excellent Kitchen Concerts series features a 12% IPA...perhaps not to be recommended when you've just sharpened your spokeshave though

That video was excellent cheers, I'll have a look at more of his stuff I think. I could introduce the beverage of choice for each post but more often than not it would be a cup of tea lol

Not much progress on this except I've made the moulds and bending forms. My folks were down for a visit and my dad was quite taken with the OM I'm building, he was asking about the guitar I'm building for my brother and after nearly 60 years has decide he would like to learn to play So now I'm building two 000 guitars, probably the same spec although I might try a slotted headstock on one. The dreadnought will have to wait.. I had already made the neck blank for the dreadnought at the same time as this one so from now on i'll just post progress of both builds.

I was wondering where this had disappeared to, ashley! Great to see some progress made - and cracking pictures, too

12 fret slotted headstocks mahogany back and sides are the way to go. Looking forward to the sound clips when this is finished.
