I posted a vid of these two in the Acoustic Cafe not long ago, having seen them play in Oxford at the Folk Fest w/e there . www.acousticsoundboard.co.uk/thread/7652/jimmy-aldridge-sid-goldsmith-moved On Sunday night I saw them again, much nearer to home at Halsway Manor. This was a small, intimate gig, in the bar and completely unplugged. Excellent. We (me + Mrs O'C plus Nuffsed and Mrs Nuffsed) got comfy seats and a table just 6 feet from the chaps. Lovely music - two great and very different voices that worked well together too. Sid played his Blair Russell guitar (which sounded very warm and full) and Jimmy played his open backed banjo. The balance between instruments and voices was just right. They are v experieced as a duo and maintained this balance throughout a very wide dynamic range. A bit of instrument variety was introduced here and there which worked very well - and they also sang unaccompanied occasionally too. Their songs were a mixture of self-penned material and re-arranged songs from other writers or traditional sources, though the majority had a very "folky" theme of industrial decline or blighted/unrequited and even reciprocal love. A lovely evening - if you get the chance to see these guys, do take it. You can find their tour details on their website or F/B page. www.jimmyandsidduo.com/www.facebook.com/jimmyandsidduo/I can also thoroughly recommend their two CDs which convey their music in a very natural way and with a little subtle and appropriate extra instrumentation which is by no means overdone. To be honest ocarolan, I wasn't really expecting to enjoy the videos somehow, based on your description of their music and instrumentation. But they were both terrific! Thanks for posting Keith - nice to see the inside of Halsway Manor again too!
