It's when you give the guitar to someone deserving (modesty prevents me from mentioning a suitable name) and they say, "Thanks mate, I'll buy you a pint sometime." Keith

I'll go 2 pints and a packet of pork scratchings... and I'll do it there and then - none of this nebulous 'sometime' promise without a reliable timeframe reference.

Sounds fair enough to me...
One for Leo here: I've just spent an hour or so making a hole in the head for the allen-key to access the truss rod. I made it bigger and wider and deeper and longer until I finally realised the allen key was the wrong size. An easy mistake to make. Hey ho.
You'll probably have to miss out the pork scratchings now you know it's not perfect.

I was drinking from a can of Dr Pepper when I read this post. I now have to find a way to clean soda pop from an iMac screen.

Can't help you with that; I'm still trying to get brains off the wall.

Excuse me for butting in, but I think we've already established that Leo is getting the super cool looking 3 frets to the body version. That means I can offer you 2 pints and the pork scratchings and cos I'm so impressed with bridge wood grain explanation I'll throw in a tube of cheese and chive pringles too.

I hadn't abandoned the build. I had temporarily abandoned this thread in an attempt to get it finished for Halifax. Those who attended will know it arrived finished but not in one piece; have a look at the Halifax photos if you don't understand. Since my return to Cambridge, I have stuck the back on although it's not entirely finished in terms of polish, set-up and so on. Nevertheless, when Mike (who has a bit of a sniffle going on) phoned me about something else this afternoon I took the opportunity to get him to have a quick try. Here is what it sounds like. I'll try to add photos during the next few days.

A guitar that can be played over the phone, R the F? You really are pushing the boundaries now aren't you?

A guitar that can be played over the phone, R the F ? You really are pushing the boundaries now aren't you? He lives about 100 metres up the road. No technology involved. Indeed, he didn't even know he was being recorded. Neither did the dog who can be heard pushing his dish around the floor; neither did Bryn who can be heard saying goodbye.

Yes but...he's 100 metres away, the guitar is presumably with you, he phones you and somehow gets to play the guitar? That's some serious Dr Who type disruption in the space-time continuum if you ask me.

Well, yes... But you know I've got these "powers", Riverman. I had you on your knees scribbling on a piece of wallpaper just the other day.

Actually Rob, you didn't...I had to go out for a bit just before your slot, and came back to find a number of attendees on their knees, apparently worshipping at the feet of a new god of lutherie. I thought about joining them but, as I'm more the agnostic type, I went for a beer instead.

I asked Bryn (the 15-year-old) this morning whether he thought this guitar sounded any different from the others I've made. He removed his earphones, pondered a moment and then said, "Yeah. It's a bit more kind of banjo-y, I suppose." He then replaced his earphones. High praise indeed; but I know what he means. I don't know if it comes across in the recording but it does sound more alive and, as Mike-the-tame-guitarist puts it, less milky. Anyway enough of the irrelevancies of the sound of the thing, what about the pictures? Well, here are some I took in the garden this morning. (Why are guitar-makers driven to make their products look like something that lurks in the bushes, I wonder - but note the metaphorical use of the artist's easel...). Anyway, here goes:
I'd better learn to play it now.
Rob
