Would a mic work for amplifying my suitcase drum and various bottlecap shakers/tambourines/whatever-I-can-fit-on-my-foot percussion?
It would be fun to add the drum to my sets, but I'm not sure how to go about it. It would be easy enough to put a piezo pickup in it (like a stomp box) but I'd also like to get the shaker in there too and am hoping for a simple solution.
If a mic would work, can I use either of the Shure 58 or AKG D5 copies hat I already have? Will feedback be a problem? It would be so cool to have one mic that picked up vocals/harmonica/guitar/percussion, but I wouldn't know where to start with that either. At the moment the bulk of my gigs are in noisy pubs.

Thank you Kym! The only thing that put me off using a piezo was that it would not amplify the bottletop shaker as well, I'd think putting a mic inside the suitcase would be similar.

When I was a child we would have called that a 'lagerphone'. It was usually given to the bush band member who didn't have a gardening glove, and therefore couldn't easily play the tea chest bass. Kym

mine is a bunch of bottle caps nailed to a square of wood that I attach to my foot with elastic. Lagerphone is a much better name.

can't you just kick it harder? It depends on the material from which the suitcase is made, Leo. Carbon fibre cases or moulded ABS cases can handle very heavy kicking indeed, but Leatherette-covered cardboard cases can only handle gentle kicking, without overdriving the top lid. Keith

Keith I knew all that knowledge you gained as an airline baggage handler would come in handy one day, Keith

I'm not sure what the suitcase is made from, def too old to be carbon fibre. Much more likely to be what Keith is talking about. It has a metal frame and is quite sturdy, strong enough to support my heft without breaking anyway. I have a piece of foam duct taped on to the top to increase the thud, it might also help with not overdriving the top.
