I thought I would review this festival which celebrated 50 years of Fairport Convention. However, words fail me ...

This year the festival paid tribute to 50 years of Airport Convention and all living members returned. I was particularly looking forward to Richard Thompson's set on Friday where he wold be backed by Simon Nicol, Dave Pegg and Dave Mattacks. This was indeed good. But ... ... The Fairport set to close the festival was astonishing. Today's line up played a few tunes and then the original line up came on — including Ian Matthews,m Ashley Hutchings, and Julie Dyble (with Mattacks replacing Martin Lamble). It its quite something for a band to play track one of album one fifty years after release! They went through some early album stuff and then Leige and Leaf with Chris While taking Sandy Denny's part. And then we had the Full House line up (with Chris Leslie on fiddle). Standing right up front this was astonishing with Richard Thompson being simple extraordinary. Nicol, Pegg and Nattacks drove Thompson on and the rhythm section was in itself extraordinary. These were a bunch of guys reliving their youth, loving every minute of it and playing better than they probably did then. I'm pretty sure this was recorded and it will make for one of the best concert recordings of all time in my view. Simply awesome musicianship.

Brilliant! I see my old buddy Gerry Colvin was playing there, too. The photos look wicked and I'm sure he was, too. Never known anyone who exudes so much joy and is so infectious in that joy as Gerry, when he's playing.

He looks well and went down well with the crowd who were right with him.

I've played Cropredy before but this year was something very very special for me! Also loved Richard Thompson's set and the final Fairport evening was amazing. (and I got to sing Meet n The Ledge with em too!)
